Acting for the Camera Culled from Tony Barr's 40 years' experience as a performer, director and acting teacher in Hollywood, this highly praised handbook provides readers with the practical knowledge they need when performing in front of the camera. This updated edition includes plenty of new exercises for honing on-camera skills; additional chapters on imagination and movement; and fresh material on character development, monologues, visual focus, playing comedy and working with directors. Inside tips on the studio system and acting guilds make it particularly helpful for people new to the business, and numerous anecdotes from actors such as Morgan Freeman and Anthony Hopkins and examples from current movies illustrate its many lessons. It is perfect for acting classes, workshops, all actors who work in front of the camera -- and all those who want to.

Papers: How-To

2005: all "clasees" directories have "student papers" pages!
First I will discribe something I disagree with:

Analytical Essay

Argumentative Essay

Research Paper

I understand that each type is focused on different aspects of analysis, but I do expect that your papers will have all the above components. It has to be analytical, agrumentative with some research done.

The biggest problem I see is that most of you do not do the outline and the drafts. You should think-through your ideas on paoer! You must do intellectual editing, before you start editing your sentenses. "One who thinks clear, writes clear," wrote Leo Tolstoy.

Actor's Journal -- see Intermediate Acting

Shakespeare - Classes directory

FINAL PAPER Guidelines

Two main requirements:
1. Select 2 Titles
2. Select the Topic/Issue/Term

For example, "3 Sisters" and "Doll's House" -- simularities and differences:
1. Chekhov and Ibsen -- in style
2. Family Model
3. Man-Woman, Husband-Wife
4. Generational Issues

Go for one of the compositional terms to narrow your field:

1. Exposition in "3 Sisters" and "Doll's House" (focus your analysis only on exposition in both plays).

2. Resolution... Climax and etc.

3. Stay with one of the six principles (Aristotle) -- Plot, Character, etc.

Title is a must!

Bibliography and endnotes!

Submit your outline first to egroup in your class!

Post your first draft -- and get feedback from the class. The more rewrites you do, the better your grade.

The best papers will be posted on Theatre w/Anatoly websites.
